Practice, practice, practice

So the countdown to our very first stand alone concert has started for me. Less than three weeks remaining. But many hours of practice must be completed before then. In fact my evening ahead will consist of sitting at my keyboard with two sets of headphones on, one over top of the other. The ear buds will pipe through some new music we're preparing, the other will carry my own sounds that only I can hear so as to not disturb my slumbering children. This is how the majority of my personal practice time goes. In order to get a good feel for the song and to learn some of the key piano bits, I listen to the music over and over and play along, often backing up certain parts to redo time and again. Tedious, but hopefully worth the end result. The neat thing about my keyboard is that I can "capo" it so that I can learn the song in the key we will perform, yet play along in the key the song is originally done in. A bit of a joke with other band members that I can cheat too!
